Treatment For Tonsillitis
When an infection occurs in the tonsils, two tissue masses at the back of your throat, it results in Tonsillitis. Tonsils guard your airway and act as filters to prevent the entry of germs that can cause infection. Tonsils also aid antibodies to fight infection. Tonsillitis is especially common in children and the symptoms include throat pain, fever and chills, red tonsils, a white or yellow coating on the tonsils, ear pain headache loss of appetite, swollen glands in the neck, stiff neck, muffled or scratchy voice, and bad breath.
The treatment depends on the diagnosis and if a bacterial infection is the cause of the problem like strep throat then the doctor would treat your child with antibiotics for curing the condition. Although the patient might feel better in 2-3 days, it’s important to complete the full course of medicines.
Since tonsils are part of your system, doctors would try their best to retain these. But if tonsillitis recurs frequently and causes huge discomfort for the patient, the doctor has no alternative but recommend tonsillectomy, a surgical procedure to remove the tonsils. The doctor uses a scalpel, a sharp knife-like tool to remove the tonsils. It’s an outpatient procedure.
